Kent Emergency Student Loans (KESL) are available to all undergraduate and postgraduate, Home, EU or International, full time or part time students, who find themselves in temporary financial difficulties. Applications can be made throughout the year but final year UG's will not receive payments past 16th April 2024.
The purpose of the loan is to aid students suffering financial difficulties who need help with their immediate essential living costs (i.e. not accommodation costs).
Aim and Benefits
Students can receive an emergency loan from the Financial Aid Office of up to a maximum of £240 after submitting a completed application.
Requirements
To be eligible you need to:
- Be fully registered
- Have already used all the funds available to you
- Have already tried other sources of funding, e.g. parents or bank
- Be able to repay the loan within three months
- Have not already got any short term loans outstanding
- Supply all necessary evidence

How to Apply
If you are eligible to apply you will need to log onto your KentVision Portal and select My Fees & Finance, Apply for funding, to apply for a KESL.
You will need to upload your bank statements to your application. The Financial Aid Office will assess your situation and decide if a loan is appropriate.
In order to be considered for a loan, you will need to provide the following:
- Up-to-date bank statements showing transactions from the last 30 days, including the current bank balance (to show spending and that no other funds are available e.g. overdraft)
- Completed application form via KentVision
